As they carried a 3" AA gun very early on, the "D" class always had a very short after funnel. © Andrew Arthur. |
Decoy with her wartime changes. Four 20mm AA added, "Y" gun replaced by DC's and a 12pdr. AA gun replaced the after tubes. SW.272 replaced the director and AA ramgefinder. © Andrew Arthur. |
These ships were repeats of the small
"C" class, but shipped two throwers and one rack for
depth-charges instead of minesweeping gear, and lacked the
divided bridge of the "C".
The original single pom-poms were replaced by multiple MG AA, on
raised platforms in the wings for better fire arcs - but not all
were fitted with these due to short supply problems.
Daring and Decoy were fitted as divisional leaders
to cope with the workload the unelarged Duncan could not
handle.
In 1936 the 3" AA gun was replaced by two single 2 pound
guns.
Later, remaining vessels were altered as they were refitted, and
recieved a 12 pounder AA gun in place of one torpedo bank, and Duncan
recieved a hedgehog inplace of "A" turret. most vessels
had their 2 pound guns and machine guns replaced with 20mm
cannons later on.
